About Me

Amanda Spooner

I started my journey towards becoming a licensed psychologist in California, where I worked to earn my Master's of Art in Psychology. It was during this time that I fell in love with the idea of becoming a therapist. I became fascinated by the richness of the human psyche, as well as how much can be gained in the therapeutic relationship.

I subsequently moved to Washington, D.C. to earn my doctorate at George Washington University. My comprehensive training was indispensible in honing my skills as a clinician. The individuals I worked with had varying histories and struggles such as trauma, addiction, grief, and depression. I continued my training at the Wright Institute in Los Angeles as an intern and post-doc, where I continued working with adults who struggled with relationship problems, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and trauma.

Once licensed, I pursued teaching, and have worked as a professor on the undergraduate level. I also gained comprehensive experience in providing school-based services for children and adolescents with learning disabilities, ADHD diagnoses, and emotional difficulties, particularly with pre-teen and teen girls. My work in a school setting has highlighted for me the absolute necessity of collaborative approach. I will work with teachers and school staff in order to address your adolescent's needs. I also have experience and knowledge in navigating the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process. Including you as a parent will be essential to treatment success, and I will work closely with you during the therapeutic process. Please give me a call with any questions at 323-207-0539 .
